McVicar Creek Protection & Rehabilitation Plan:
improving the water quality of the Great Lakes

EOR completed Thunder Bay’s first watershed protection plan, uniting the City & stakeholders. Previously, the City had essentially no stormwater management regulations or established incentives. This project moved-beyond the traditional first-steps of “introductory stormwater management” to incorporating the leading watershed management and green infrastructure approaches used today.

The plan is a comprehensive assessment of the 50 sq.km. watershed (which supports a coldwater stream) and a detailed gap analysis. Incentive, regulatory, educational protection, & restoration strategies were also identified and prioritized. Implementation strategies were tailored based on the unique physical, social, and climatic characteristics of the community and watershed.
