Charley Western Bridge Demolition

Charley Western Bridge Demolition

As the Charley Western Bridge was in danger of imminent collapse and posed a public safety issue for an area that is heavily used by fisherman and other recreationalists, EOR worked with Calhoun-Burns and Assoc. and the City of Charles City to complete the Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act consultation and compliance for its demolition.

EOR specialists developed a determination of effect documentation, mitigation plan, and Memorandum of Agreement, which resulted in the production of an American Engineering Record-level documentation of the bridge before it was razed. Our team consisted of national experts in cultural resource management and preservation, landscape architects, and bridge engineers.

EOR specialists worked with multiple federal, state, and local agencies to address adverse effects to the historic Charley Western Bridge and to ensure public safety and wellbeing. The team's expertise has been particularly important in identifying a unique mitigation strategy that allowed the bridge demolition to proceed in a timely manner.
