Sustainable Sites for Hennepin County Libraries
Sustainable Sites for Hennepin County Libraries
EOR worked with the Hennepin County (MN) Department of Environment and Energy to design sustainable site improvements for multiple existing library properties across the system. The three main library sites were located in South Minneapolis (Washburn Library), Plymouth (Plymouth Library, and Rogers (Rogers Library). Site improvements included simple interventions such as downspout rain gardens and full-site retrofits, including reconfigured parking and circulation systems to support sustainable site features such as permeable pavers, tree trenches, green/living walls, infiltration basins, and sustainable landscaping.
EOR prepared conceptual plans and site renderings for all three projects and construction bid documents for the green infrastructure upgrades at the Plymouth and Rogers Libraries. The county plans to implement green infrastructure improvements for Washburn Library in the coming years.
Client Benefits
- Site improvements work with existing circulation patterns to incorporate BMPs and reduce impervious areas.
- Proposed native plantings provide climate adaptation benefits such as air filtration, cooling, water filtration, and habitat.
- Detailed concept plans and cost estimates assist in ease of planning and implementation.
