Brown's Creek Restoration

Brown's Creek Restoration

EOR conducted an assessment of Brown's Creek through Brown's Creek Park and identified degraded stream conditions that had resulted in floodplain abandonment, accelerated bank erosion, altered floodplain hydrology, and subsequent invasion of woody invasive species within the floodplain.

EOR developed a restoration design that restored floodplain connectivity and stream sinuosity, removed aquatic organism barriers, reduced sedimentation & nutrient loading to the creek, and restored the hydrologic conditions of adjacent wetlands. The project included installation of rock riffles to raise the creek bed to reconnect the floodplain and to elevate the baseflow elevation to restore floodplain hydrology. Woody invasive species were removed throughout the corridor and native seeding was completed to increase vegetation diversity and pollinator habitat. The project also included the creation of an ADA access trail to improve public access to the creek.

Client Benefits

  • Floodplain connectivity and reconnection of oxbow channels to reduce flood energy and restore sinuosity.
  • Development of renderings for both public and private landowner outreach.
  • Project added 500 feet of stream length to the reach and rehabilitated 9 acres of native riparian and upland vegetation.
