Fitchburg Community Hub
Community & Recreation Hub for Underserved Neighborhood
As part of the Fitchburg’s Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative (HNI), EOR was hired to plan and design this signature hub and park space to provide recreational, social, and educational resources to this identified high-priority, underserved part of the City.
This park provides an activity hub for the neighborhood and community that is centered around a 4-season building, including a pedestrian plaza with fireplace, playscapes for all ages, a full-sized basketball court with pickleball lines, new parking area, and a one-of-a kind bike and skate park. The main bike portion is designed to challenge all ages of uses, with multiple routes and additional features designed to develop user's skill and techniques.
Stormwater management is sited and designed to maximize greenspace and enhance the overall aesthetics of the park space. Dominated by native species, the stormwater features will address all onsite needs and reduce peak rates, while environmental signage provides educational opportunities to visitors.
