Mining Supplemental EIS

Mining Supplemental EIS

EOR's mining experts conducted a supplemental EIS under the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), Minnesota's version of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The EIS reviewed proposed modifications to the Essar Steel Minnesota mining and steel pellet manufacturing project which created significant potential for increased air and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). The Supplemental EIS evaluated air, mercury, & GHG emissions, health risks for ecological and health subjects, and proposed mitigations measures. EOR also performed hydrologic analyses to assess potential groundwater seepage from the tailings basin and potential water quality impacts to downstream wild rice beds.
