Northwood Playfield Park
Northwood Playfield Park & Water Reuse
EOR used green infrastructure techniques in the design of a unique project that captures water from the park's splash pad in a biofiltration swale and basin. These features filter and infiltrate the water before it enters the storm sewer system and represents a first in Canada, for the treatment of a water-featured, play element. Additionally, the captured and reused water, recharges groundwater resources, lessening pressure on the city's water systems.
Located on the shared site with a First Nations' community center, the expression of this heritage was a critical, cultural component of the project. As such, the park design integrates natural geologic boulders donated by the Fort Williams First Nation, as well as features animals and native language within the splash pad design.
