Storm Lake High School Courtyard

Storm Lake High School Courtyard

EOR worked closely with students and staff to secure funding and design site improvements for the Storm Lake High School courtyard. An Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship grant allowed for the construction of the design which improved courtyard accessibility while adding green infrastructure features such as custom permeable pavers, seating elements, and rain gardens that featured native plants. This courtyard also served as two outdoor classrooms and helped the school manage COVID risks, while giving students access to environmental education and greenspace during the school day.

This project served as a stormwater demonstration project and outdoor classroom for teacher Angela Mesenbrink, who was the recipient of the 2022 Traveling Canoe Paddle Award for Stormwater Innovation from the Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership which recognizes a city, county, educational organization or professional member that tries an innovative policy, practice, or program in urban stormwater management.

  • Outdoor environmental, educational classrooms (of particular importance during COVID period)
